Getting there by Train
The forester lodge is located on Uetliberg. It can easily be reached by public transport. In particular, you should use the the train 'S10'. The S10 is a regional railway line. It runs from the Zurich Main Station (german: 'Zürich HB') to Uetliberg. The S10 leaves from the (underground) tracks 1 and 2 (a map is here). The underground tracks of the main station are also called 'Bahnhof SZU'. Trains typically come every 30 minutes and the trip takes about 15 minutes. You need to exit the train at station 'Uitikon-Waldegg'. At the 'Uitikon-Waldegg' station, there is a yellow sign indicating the 'Forsthaus', where you need to cross the tracks -- it is next to the railway crossing sign in the figure below. You can see the Forsthaus to the left (in driving direction, i.e. uphill) of the tracks. For more information check out this Google Map of the location. You can check the schedule of trains leaving from the Main Station here. Early in the morning trains leave at: 07:25, 07:55 and 08:25.Public transportation - Tickets and Fares
The city of Zurich is divided into fare zones. Depending on where you travel to, you need to pay a different amount depending on the number of zones you are passing. Most of Zurich is within zone 10. However, Uitikon-Waldegg requires a 3-zone ticket. A day pass ('Tageskarte') for 3 zones currently costs 12.40 CHF (Swiss francs). Note that you also need a 3-zone ticket for using the public transport to and from the airport. Train tickets must be purchased before boarding. There are automatic ticket machines (see here), but they often only accept coins. On the machines you can also select the specific destination, e.g. Uitikon-Waldegg. Tickets can be used for trains, trams and buses. For more information see this site. We can recommend the Zurich Card (german: ZürichCARD). A ZürichCARD is valid for either 24 or 72 hours and offers several benefits: It is a ticket for public transportation, you get discounts at museums, restaurants and other venus.
